Non-communicable Diseases by Rural and Urban areas

Non-communicable diseases among HDSS Sleman respondents include:

  • Hypertension: if any household member has ever been diagnosed with hypertension/high blood pressure by a health worker (doctor, nurse, or midwife).
  • Diabetes Mellitus: if any household member has ever been diagnosed with diabetes mellitus/sugar disease by a health worker (doctor, nurse, or midwife).
  • Stroke: if any household member has ever been diagnosed with stroke/partial paralysis by a health worker (doctor, nurse, or midwife).
  • Coronary Heart Disease: if any household member has experienced sudden death (aged over 40 years), has ever been hospitalized due to severe pain in the left chest, has ever been diagnosed with heart disease by a health worker (doctor, nurse, or midwife), or has received medical or combined medical and traditional treatment, and in the past 12 months has taken medication or undergone treatment.
  • Cancer: if any household member has ever been diagnosed with cancer by a health worker (doctor, nurse, or midwife), or has received medical or combined medical and traditional treatment, and in the past 12 months has taken medication or undergone treatment.
  • Asthma and COPD: if any household member has ever experienced asthma/wheezing/shortness of breath/COPD.
  • Angina: if in the past 12 months a household member has experienced chest pain when walking uphill or on a flat surface that causes them to stop or slow down, and experiences pain in the left chest area, or has ever been diagnosed with angina and received treatment or care for it.
  • Chronic Lung Disease: if the respondent has ever been diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (emphysema, bronchitis, COPD).
