Number of Disabilities among HDSS Sleman respondents by Type of Disability and Area of Residence (Sub-district) in HDSS Data Collection Wave 2
Types of household members among HDSS Sleman respondents with disabilities in data collection wave 2 are as follows:
- Speech disability refers to the inability of a person to speak, or muteness, caused by disorders in organs such as the throat, vocal cords, lungs, mouth, tongue, and others.
- Physical disability refers to a condition that hinders an individual’s activities due to damage or impairment to bones, muscles, or joints, thus reducing the person’s normal capacity. This condition may be congenital or caused by illness or accidents.
- Intellectual disability refers to a condition of mental retardation, also known as mental retardation (mental retardation). According to the American Association on Mental Deficiency (AAMD), intellectual disability is defined as: an individual who has general intellectual functioning significantly below average (sub-average), that is, an IQ of 84 or below based on tests; which appears before the age of 16; and shows limitations in adaptive behavior. The category of significant sub-average refers to individuals with slow intellectual functioning, that is, those with an IQ of 70 or below based on standardized intelligence tests.
- Hearing disability refers to a medical condition characterized by a decrease or loss in a person’s ability to hear sounds.
- Visual disability is a general term used to describe a condition in which a person experiences impairment or obstacles in their sense of sight.
